Strange coincidence. I wrote a series of stories on my Substack, PortlandDissent, about the Regional Arts and Culture Council, which gets arts tax money and doles it out to area artists. They--just a coincidence--mostly fund political agitprop and refuse to divulge how they make funding decisions, since once the dollars go from the city to RACC, it disappears behind the "nonprofit" cone of silence.
I applied for a grant, just to see what would happen. I made it about as non-progressive as possible--so I asked for a measly $1000 foraverage Portlanders gather on street corners and other public locations to recite, in unison, the Declaration of Independence on the 4th.
Needless to say, I didn't get the grant.
An RACC apparatchik contacted me, and basically said the anonymous judges had concluded that the application was really a joke.
A worthy project, but one fitting for the private sector. We don't want patriots to get soft because the government is paying them to do what they can do on their own.
As Patriots celebrate July 4th, and remember that our Founding Fathers realized that their lives were at risk for merely signing. we sadly discover that we have enemies within our midst. Nevertheless, I believe we can and will prevail. Happy 4th!
