From my observation and reading, there are three distinct types of "homeless" people: 1) those who are down on their luck financially who have been functioning but have exhuasted their resources, 2) those who are drug addicts without financial resources, and 3) people who have severe mental issues leaving them unable to function effectively. I propose that those in #1 be given immediate attention and assistance. I believe those described in #2 and #3 be taken from the street and moved to appropriate treatment facitlies.

In my opinion, it is inhumane to allow anyone to "live" on the streets. It affects all people particularly the taxpayers who fund all services and deserves safety and cleanliness.

The current systems have too many structural elements withour a clear directive for who is being served. In my opinion, the taxpayers drive this bus and are not being served. Every previous designed solution was deemed to be desirable and effective yet no one has been held responsible for failures. The insanity continues.

This is why I voted for Sharon Meieran. She's one of the few voices of rationality in dealing with homelessness after a decade of the Kafoury/JVP debacle, which has been a huge contributor to the fiscal and quality of life Doom Loop Multnomah County is now facing.
