Supporting Brim Edwards who is pushing back hard against housing first and needle distribution. In fact she is backing an ordinance which limits needle distribution around schools. Brim Edwards will make a great chair at a time when the county is changing their direction. She works very well with other commissioners and is best suited to move the county in a more positive direction. In fact, she is already doing so!
I hope Sharon will make addressing the Preschool for All program's massive surplus a top priority. As of June 30, 2025, the surplus had grown to $610 million!
At a minimum, she should support indexing the tax thresholds to inflation to prevent bracket creep from ensnaring more middle-class working families each year, and indefinitely suspending the scheduled 2027 tax increase from 1.5% to 2.3% (a 53% increase) until the surplus is brought back to a reasonable level.
Hallelujah! Was a shame she didn't win the race for County Chair the last time around, so hopefully this time Portland voters will realize the error in their ways in the previous election and elect someone superbly qualified to serve as Chair.
I read Sharon's plan and admittedly did not fully understand it. The point for me is that she is a professional, she cares, and she is ready to act day one. I endorse her and suggest Bob Weinstein be recruited as an aid . Our county needs new blood, decision-makers who are results oriented. Four billion dollars. I cannot comprehend such a number and why it needs to be so high. Our county probably costs us two times the amount that private business would charge. I am a Milton Friedman disciple. I say ENOUGH ALREADY. Vote for Sharon M.
The reason you don't understand the plan is because it is a master class in obfuscation. Meieran has a habit of that which she also utilized when Measure 110 was on the ballot. It is a plan with no plan. This pattern is a good reason not to vote for her.
I have been trying to reform MCAS (Multnomah County Animal Service) for almost 20 years, but conventional county government refuses to intervene. Instead, maintaining the status quo and rewarding incompetent or unqualified bureaucrats seems to be the preferred standard. That this dysfunctional dumpster fire of a public agency continues to haunt taxpayers and animals alike seems to be of no concern to Ms. Brim Edwards. Her response? Build them a new $80 plus million dollar building at taxpayers expense because…..why not ? I suggested she read the audit reports that detailed the massive, and continuing, failures before she launched another attack on our already beleaguered pocket books, but I was lectured instead. A newly elected commissioner with zero understanding of the issues lecturing a public animal control expert. I don’t consider that leadership. I consider it arrogance, a personality trait we have been suffering with since JVP was elected. Enough already. I was going to ask for my money back since I made the maximum allowable donation to Brim Edward’s campaign, but since I now know who she really is, an over ambitious politician with eyes for the governor’s house or the Senate, the County Chair being just a temporary placeholder to establish name familiarity, and pandering to any special interest that will return the favor, I think I’ll just donate and vote for Sharon Meieran instead. Someone who’s ambition is to make things better for people (and animals)…… here.
I like Brim Edwards approach and demeanor which is respectful and not hyperbolic. I sense that her relationship with other commissioners is very good which is essential in that job. She is not a grandstander, but one who by gathering support can get things done. She is the best to move the county away from housing first, insist on proper hospital care for severely mentally ill people, and stop the needle distribution. And to my knowledge she was not party to Measure 110. I won't support anyone who waffled on Measure 110 and didn't firmly oppose it. People need to be definitive in public office rather than obfuscate. I think Brim Edwards can be solid and not a waffler.
With all due respect, my personal experience with Ms. Brim-Edwards is something other than what you describe. Let's just say, "respectful" was not part of her demeanor. I could write that off as a bad day, feeling rushed, or a simple misreading of the room (Zoom.....which makes for a funny rhyme), but her position, was and still is, misinformed, yet adamant and demanding. Normally I would like that character trait (think General Patton) because we now need to be results driven, and to use one of my favorite quotes, "Leaders lead. They don't wait for consensus", is a quality we desperately need, but spoiler alert: Know what you're talking about before you open your mouth. Anyone can be excused for being ignorant of an issue, but activating policy and spending tax dollars based on that ignorance is not leadership.
"Damn the torpedoes and full steam ahead" is a noble and heroic gesture, but always be aware, there are still torpedoes, so before you send US into the breach, do your research. Ms. Brim Edwards is too confident of her abilities. Be more humble. Listen instead of interrupting. Another of my favorite quotes is from Oliver Cromwell. After a particularly bloody battle, and staring out over a field of dead and injured soldiers and horses, he turned to his generals and said,"think first that you might be wrong." Try that advice for a change, Julia. Until then, I'm going to take a pass on your arrogance.
It is gratifying to consider voting FOR someone as opposed to AGAINST someone else. I think Sharon may be that candidate.
Maybe Portland does have a future beyond goose liver, drug use autonomy, and the self righteous irresponsible.
I appreciate Sharon calling on aspiring leaders to show thier plan instead of the soooo tired complaints and the "I feel your pain" b.s. Brava.

This may shake up the County Chair race.

Agreed! I voted for her last time and I’ll vote for her again. One can only hope other voters will learn from their mistakes at some point.

It is time for a change people.

Hyphenated surnames sometimes go to people's heads.
