I wrote to her complaining about her quashing that bill and she made a similar response to me. If she is finally willing to defend her action, I’m willing to hear her out. But she should have done so immediately on changing her mind. This kind of behavior has the strong appearance of backstabbing the neighborhood for ideological points or political profit.

I am tired of city, county, and state leaders pandering to those with addictions over the safety of the general public. Their ultra liberal actions have led to this ongoing debacle, and I, for one, am exhausted over it. Vote her out of office, there is no plausible reason for her actions. Shame!

Senator Reynolds lied. Full Stop.

She did not offer compromise. Full Stop.

She did not allow the mountains of virtual testimony during presentation of SB 1573. She heard 2 Stadiumhood citizens in person, and opening remarks from Senator Drazon.

Reynolds does not represent the struggles of our neighborhood. She defends the mysticism of body autonomy, and theorectics of "what if" instead of what is.

Reynolds is done and belongs in the rear view mirror. We can't afford any more time and / or lost leadership.

It is time for Autumn Sharp. Full Stop.

Thank you for your support! I'll bring the common sense, pratical leadership our neighbors and community deserve. I know what needs to be done becuase my young daughter and I are living in the trenches with the repercussions of failed policy every single day.

It will mean being willing to defy the leadership of your own party at times, but we need practical, fiscally responsible solutions to the problems that are overwhelming us. Best of luck!

"defy" party leadership? I'm on board with public servants who serve ALL the public, including me. Who will keep a sharp focus on how to re-build Portland. I couldn't care less about party leadership. If they aren't leading me and my community to health, wellness, and peace-- they are not leading.

This is exactly what we have not seen in our State Legislature for many years, as exemplified by State Senator Reynold's recently.

In my opinion, this will require a ballot measure to resolve.

There is zero response she can make on this topic that would justify it. Any adult with a functioning brain knows this practice should be curtailed - she’s not fit for office and it’s good she’s outed herself so voters can do the necessary.

The main statement Reynolds is explaining her decision with is simply a factual falsehood. This bill will not, and never had written into it any language that would, end harm reduction in our state. The bill would have put a legal statute in place to hold those who hand out needles and other drug paraphenalia in school zones somewhat accountable to the community it's actually harming by atracting predators, sex traffickers, dealers, and other criminals directly into the paths of our children. I'm living in the trenches of the legacy of poor decision-making and pandering to big donors for political/personal gain, and I see every day how it impacts my own daughter. I'm running for this seat so we have a practical, community-minded alternative to vote for this May.

Reynolds has had time to craft a crafty response. No matter what excuses she comes up with, she has demonstrated mis-trust and the inability to be accountable for her erroneous decision. She lied. And she has eroded public trust in her. It's time to move along from these imbecile politicians.

My experience with Reynolds has been mixed. I am not surprised she caved. Her career would be over. The medical community here is seems generally on board with distributing needles and the public health community seems to be scared primarily of infectious disease, to the the detriment of other medical problems like overdose. That is why they make unfounded proclamations that needle distribution doesn't lead to overdose deaths and are silent also on the social and occupational consequences of drug addiction. They seem to operate in a silo oblivious to what is happening on the streets and neighborhoods afflicted most. It is a tunnel vision government that we have where each is assigned his or her place. It would have been nice for Senator Reynolds to step out of line but no such luck. I will be surprised to know that anything different comes from the public meeting she is holding.
