So many great ideas, especially about the charter. A large part of it is not working (for the general public anyways). It also seems very odd to me that the Peacocks are so obstinate about figuring out a tie breaker. Why would they want to sit through 3 days of arguing every January? What a horrible way to start off the new year. And next year, there will likely be different councilors (hopefully) and it’s certainly not a good way to roll out the welcome mat.

Implementing these suggested changes would do wonders for this city and we are in desperate need of good leadership, not childish squabbling and virtue signaling ordinances.

My view on why they are so obstinate: Extremist politicians tend to frame issues in moral absolutes rather than as negotiable policy choices. In today’s tribal political climate—where identity and loyalty often matter more than policy—compromise begins to look less like governance and more like betrayal. In that mindset, they are right, everyone else is wrong, and disagreement itself is treated as a hostile act. I cannot imagine living life constantly on the lookout for microaggressions, where even being asked to cover my tattoo in public is interpreted as hostility.

I have come to believe like many others that the reason for the childish behavior on the part of some people is calculated to so discord among the population. I don't believe that they can be trusted to serve people they are governing. I put them in the category of about 9 percent of people in the US who steal things from stores. That same level of criminality is present in our government so we should really elect others.
