"This not your grandmother's library"---THAT is the problem. We need higher shelves, more books, fewer places to connect with the cloud. Bring back the books, it is a a library. It is not an arcade or a place to play Mortal Combat, Grand Theft Auto....etc. Books improve our lives.
I checked it out today. Spent about 90 minutes at the curving wooden bench with the tables, and found the bench to be quite comfortable (unlike at PDX.) The round tables are sturdy and heavy but it looks like they can be moved if necessary.
One of the librarians told me that for the opening they've stuffed the shelves with books that aren't normally coded for the NW Branch so it's a good time to go in and browse.
The clerestory windows and skylights provide lots of lights, so on this sunny day the "blue" color scheme was working well (as it will in the summer, I believe.) I voted for the orange one btw.
The old library had a spot just inside the front door to recycle magazines. The new library, with all its space, is NOT providing this service. Really! It's a benefit to the neighborhood for the folks leaving them off and the folks picking them up.

I am so happy about this new branch. This is a great achievement for the county and a wonderful addition to our neighborhood.
Now we just need that park
