Why is a person who committed a 3rd or 4th degree assault on camera released into the community to do it again?

This is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison or a year in jail depending on the injuries suffered.

To be honest, I would not be mad if a large man willing to administer some actual justice were to find this lunatic before the police.

With the caveat that the perpetrator knew exactly why he was being punished.

The fact that this criminal was released until his court date is outrageous and is an indictment of our judicial system and its commitment to maintaining public safety. I keep reading stories similar to this and wonder whether it is our judges or other elements of our judicial system that are at fault for their irresponsible permissiveness.

The man who attacked my family in our house had also attacked a woman and left her for dead a couple of days before he came to our home. The police had let him go. Then he broke into a car. They let him go. We need to publicize more of these stories. Things have not been okay in Portland, and they are still not.

The fact that a person committing a violent assault on someone was immediately released is jaw-dropping. He is obviously a threat to the community. Am I just totally out of touch with the world as it is now?
