A great story with a number of elements; the vey good work Blanchet House is doing for the American version of India’s Untouchables, a glimpse of the scene around the House in the morning and the life these people live, but most of all the importance of purpose, which this woman has found by helping those who lack any purpose beyond daily personal survival.
I am struck by the first Richard’s comment. If the ONLY solution to this homelessness issue is achieving income equality, there is no hope for them in sight. Better wealth and income equity and the opportunity it brings is much needed, but that does not mean we have to give up on helping these people address the various reasons they are waiting in the cold for warmth, clothes and a meal. There are ways to help them find purpose beyond hour to hour survival.
Homelessness is a symptom. Until we tax the rich and do something about the extreme income inequality in this country, we will have homelessness.

Thank you, Dick, and also for your great Commentary pieces!
