They released video footage of the person who started the fire - appears to be one of the many mentally unstable homeless people the city has inflicted on the NW area in the form of two large no barrier shelters that they refuse to adequately oversee.

Once again, the everyday joy for the ordinary citizens of Portland is just chipped away and chipped away. 💔

Unfortunately this is not going to get better. We have combined City/ County Governments that are breathtakingly incompetent in solving practical real-world problems, and frankly our Governor and Portland's state legislators are no better (witness Lisa Reynolds D Portland's recent quashing of the needle bill supported by Stadiumhood and the Friends of Couch Park). Portland/ Multnomah County and even the State of Oregon are circling the drain because of One-Party rule by virtue signaling ideologues and their apparatchik administrators (PBOT anyone?).

Until the miasma of our so-called "Charter Reform" is cleaned up, we've no hope of seriously addressing these issues. And somehow, we need to dislodge the hyper-progressive cabal that controls our state's largest political party.

I get your frustration, but do you think Republicans are the answer? What model do you suggest?

First step: open up the primaries to independents and allow any registered voter to vote whether they are members of a party or not. The extremists in both parties would find it much more difficult to win their primary elections, effectively pushing both parties to the center.

One Party rule in Oregon is just as bad as One Party rule is in Oklahoma.

Is there a model that might include sane, competent Democrat nominees or are the only choices the same type of activist/non-profiteers who have been aiding in the destruction of all facets of the city for at least the last 8 years or so?

Very unfortunate. I’ve had many good meals at that Elephants Delicatessen location. Let’s hope they’re able to rebuild quickly.

We don’t know whether the fire was started by a transient living on the street, but this should still be a wake-up call for city officials about the risks that these people create for regular law-abiding citizens.

The first thing I thought was that it was a person who was smoking meth and accidentally lit the fire or thought it would be interesting to light a fire.

Yeah Old Town is a sewer. Yeah a homeless woman in a blanket is using a blow torch on Elephants. But, hey, plural marriages are now protected! It's a democracy and we are getting it good and hard.
