If you are using the term “unhoused neighbor” you are contributing to the problem. The woke speak euphemisms need to go. They empower the people who have destroyed the city.

Has anybody looked hard into how much of the activity of Portland's fire engines is being directed at responding to drug overdoses, how much ofd the department's budget is being eaten up for these calls and whether sending a fire truck each time makes any sense?

Well more than 40% of their fire calls are homeless related fires…that gives you an idea of the huge burden and cost for Portland Fire due to unsanctioned camping. https://katu.com/news/local/pfr-homeless-fires-accounted-for-more-than-40-off-all-fire-related-calls-in-2022-portland-oregon-fire-city-in-crisis

Well done. Sadly very few portlanders are willing to learn anything about the process of accepting unacceptable behaviors and it’s horrible side effects, effects that you have so clearly described. Far too many people who have moved here from 2016 until today know only the City as it exists now, and sadly, they don’t think it is all that bad. Our community is past the tipping point and moving downward at a very rapid rate. If I were younger I would move as have so many families and businesses that have the means.

I’m not that young but still looking to get out. If I had younger kids I would have been long gone….

It sounds harsh, but I think Narcan should not be available to the general public. First responders yes, but this merry-go-round of enabling needs to end. So people die of drug overdoses. There are far more important things that the money spent propping up this cycle could be spent on. You want to end your life, so be it.
