It is highway robbery that this position is paid this much and is obviously not held to any sort of positive result or minimum amount of basic competence at all. The taxpayers are being absolutely fleeced. I’m glad she is seeing herself out.
At long last! Two County Chairs in a row who have failed miserably in dealing effectively with the homeless issue. Hopefully Portland voters will FINALLY elect someone with common sense and an orientation toward results and spending taxpayer money effectively.
Rank choice took her out. The Democratic Socialists will pull out the stops to engineer a candidate into office. The only thing we can hope for is that the DSA types will brawl among themselves.
I'd bet on a Brim-Edwards vs. Sharon Meieran battle--Brim-Edwards has been making the usual progressive leftwing noises--a DSA candidate might carve enough crazy-left votes away from her for Meieran to squeak in.
There is no one speaking out against the direction the county has taken regarding housing first, the passing out of needles by Multnomah County facilitating drug use or supporting civil commitment or jail or mandatory drug free periods for those convicted of public laws regarding public intoxication. Without a clear change of direction and leadership that is willing to support changes as noted above, things will stay the same or get worse.
A good opportunity for some changes from the Debra Kafoury/JVP Status Quo. A lot of damage has been done. As for the pay, we need to attract good people to public service. We all have different ideas about what constitutes "good", but I believe most of us would agree that the County and City need to cooperate much better around clear, measurable shared goals of the outcomes they want to see around:
Behavioral Health. Is it treatment and recovery or maintenance? Is it "treatment first" or housing first?
Homelessness and Housing. Is it aimed at temporary shelter, permanent housing of a transition to both that recognizes the differences between those experiencing homelessness and houselessness?
Public Safety. What kind of "accountability" do to improve public safety for all we need in Portland to improve both livability and safety for all stakeholders; business owners and their workers, visitors that bring income into the area from outside, housed residents of all ethnicities and income levels and those with no place to call home?
Employment Opportunities. Like it or not, workers have no income of businesses don't have customers, government has no revenue unless workers and businesses have income. It has to work out for all. We need to change the atmosphere to bring Oregon's largest City back.
We need good transparent data to see how we are doing on these goals. We don't come close today.
We need accountability for failure. JVP's decision is part of this accountability. The County has failed too many times in too many areas under her watch. Time for competent change.
Great! Via con dios.
Kids off to college--- okay.
How about all the kookoo, too? Ugh. We've suffered enough! Please Santa, give us / me someone who has common sense!

She was the worst! Good riddance

How does Ranked choice voting work when only one position is being filled?
