Sauvie Island firefighters celebrate community

Breakfast, babies and a ride in a fire truck

Mothers with young ones line up for a ride they will remember.

The Sauvie Island Fire District’s annual pancake breakfast yesterday celebrated traditions dear to the farming community at the edge of the city: hearty breakfasts, firefighting and community gatherings binding all generations. Fathers and sons in the volunteer fire department have been protecting the island since the 1980s.

There are pancakes, and then there are pancakes that say love.
