Portland State University's Montgomery Court going down

New residential hall to replace two old ones, including a 1917 landmark designed by famed architect A.E. Doyle

Nearly half of the residence hall had been knocked down as of Sept. 23.

Portland State University is demolishing Montgomery Court, a 1917 landmark designed by famed Portland architect A.E. Doyle, shortly after leveling the 1930 Blackstone Hall on the same block in the center of campus.

Last year, the university approved a plan to build 550 student housing units with an $85 million construction bond.

Last fall, neighbors and preservationists made a stand for the historic hall.
