I applaud this group. I think we who live in Portland should not be afraid to insist on safe, clean parks and public spaces (including libraries). And it's not just children that deserve a voice - we all do, and we shouldn't be afraid to speak up.
Based on drug and alcohol testing post crime, about 1/3rd of murders in Portland are associated with alcohol or drug use often of both the victim and the perpetrator.
What is missing from the article is what is sentence was for each of his previous convictions, whether he was jailed, or imprisoned for them, and information of the circumstances of each of his previous convictions. Proper punishment for violations of the law should be the first thing we look at when evaluating recidivism and whether society is upholding its commitment to public safety.
