District 4 City Council member Olivia Clark hosted a constituent gathering at Negociant on Northwest 21st Avenue. One of the topics was “Fentanyl Fridays,” in which drug addicts get free supplies from Portland People’s Outreach Project at Northwest 19th and Couch streets once a week.
Ironically, the notorious tradition may have ended the night before. District Attorney Nathan Vasquez announced his intent to prosecute offenders, including those who intimidate neighbors, and a few days later PPOP apparently took their Friday night handout somewhere else.
Clark does not support this kind of activity in the name of harm reduction.
You might reconsider your assumption about Green's position.
At a City Club forum last month, Green said, "There is lots of overlap in our views on this ...
I come from the housing first, evidence-based and more compassionate end of this, but I think when you see a silly system you should flag it and say, 'Why is this there?'”
What did Olivia have to say about this? I’m guessing her fellow D4 councilor Mitch Green is a big proponent of this harm “reduction” nonsense.
