Thank you Mayor Wilson

This is beautifully written and spoken. I stand behind our mayor and support any rules or laws that can contain the unconstitutional activities of the federal governments gestapo who are, BTW, paid by our taxes!

Are the "peaceful protests" is why Trump said he will no longer send help to blue cities and they will have to ask for help from mow on? Besides, I was there and the protesters WERE being violent. I stood there in amazement. I'm just glade I was far off in the distance as they kept acting like animals

There's a reason some people have called Portland "Little Beirut." It's dated, but apt.

Why aren't the Portland Police out in force to protect those marching against current federal government actions relative to immigrants? Every legislator who is sitting on his or her ass while this administration has become violent under the rule of a mad man should be voted out of office.

What do you propose Portland Police do to protect protesters in situations such as the one that unfolded yesterday?

Here is how The Oregonian, hardly an organ of the Trump administration, described events yesterday:

"Thousands of protesters marched through South Portland and enveloped the blocks around the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building Saturday, a demonstration that escalated within minutes of their arrival at the federal facility."

I would not have brought a child anywhere near the ICE facility.

To quote columnist in WSJ:

The federal government has not only the right but the duty to enforce immigration law....

But if you do this, you must do it right - professionally, with restraint, by the book, in the full spirit of the law. Americans do not want and won't accept masked men in camouflage jumping out of unmarked vans and demanding papers. It's not us.

You ignore the fact that the mayor and peacocks and governor do not want ANY immigration enforcement. Then ask yourself: when the biggest fraud involving immigrants was surfaced in Minneapolis, why did the riots and provocations promptly begin?

Stick to facts.

More pandering and misinformation from our mayor; every pol in this town should acquaint themselves with the Constitutionn's supremacy clause; then they should read, starting with 8 USC, chapter 12 (on the books since 1952), and then amendments such as the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, the REAL ID Act of 1996...and then get back to us.

This is playing to a certain hysterical portion of the populace, which likes to march around with preprinted signs and dress up in silly costumes (and carry guns to such proceedings) and bring their kids along...but they are playing at something dangerous (as 2020 should have taught us), not to mention a basic undermining of central principles of republican (small R folks) government that got its test in 1864.

This is part and parcel of the socialist-revolutionary cult, which has once again pulled the stake out of its heart, knowing that few products of current education don't know much, if anything, about the socialist adventures of the 20th century. They are in the business (a profitable one at that!) of destabilising any and all foundational institutions so that they can remake them in line with their utopian dreams--with them as bosses, of course.

There they are. Proudly getting tear-gassed.

They should also acquaint themselves with the "Protest and Get Shot in the Face Act of 2026" and the "Protect a Woman From a Fat Thug or Get Shot 10 Times in the Back Law".

Pearl District resident Barbara Bennett sent this message for publication:

I am proud of Mayor Wilson for candidly speaking up against the unlawful activities of ICE,

prompted by the unbalanced felon in the white House, and I once again sent a message to our mayor to that affect.

I am proud of Gov. Kotek and Police Chief Day for standing up to the unlawful and dangerous attempted domination emanating from the White House, and I have told them so, more than once.

Trump loves chaos; well, he ain't getting it here. We will not allow him to tear down our state and country. We here in Oregon and our United States are All in This Together.
