As a fairly typical Portland progressive myself, you are speaking about something that I thought conservatives were always guilty of, waaay more than liberals. But here you outline how that is not necessarily true. When people obtain any kind of power in a political environment, even a liberal one, they are loath to give it up. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
